The project will entail an evaluation of outcomes for participants of Santa Clara County’s Heart Failure Program (HFP) who have co-occurring substance abuse problems and are accepting intervention. Using a quasi-experimental design with a matched comparison group, the study will explore an evidence-based social work intervention grounded in a multi-disciplinary health team approach in responding to the significant impact of illicit drug use on health outcomes. The project is in line with SJSU’s mission of collaborative, community-based research.

The goal of the Social Work Education Enhancement Program (SWEEP) is to strengthen the capacity of Vietnam’s higher education social work programs to deliver quality education and prepare trained, job ready social workers. SWEEP has four main components: 1) Improve university administration and management of undergraduate social work education; 2) improve professional development of social work faculty ; 3) improve curriculum development; and 4) assist in the development of technology infrastructure to improve collaboration and networking among Vietnam social work education programs. Eight universties representing urban and rural provinces are partnering with SWEEP from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap, Hue, Vinh City, and Da Lat. The collaboration also includes important contributions from Cisco Systems in providing technical assistance and training to partner universities.
