Bio
Judith Lessow-Hurley is a Professor in the Elementary Education Department. In addition, she currently serves as a member of the Academic Senate of the California State University. A graduate of C.C.N.Y., Middlebury College and the University of Colorado, Dr. Hurley has been a bilingual/ESL teacher in New York and Colorado. She is the author of The Foundations of Dual Language Instruction, 5th edition (Pearson, 2009), used nationwide to prepare teachers to work with second language learners. Another of her recent publications, Meeting the Needs of Second Language Learners (ASCD, 2003) is especially useful for administrators, school board members and parents.
In addition to bilingual education, Dr. Hurley is interested in multicultural education and is a recognized expert on religious diversity in the public schools.
