Bio
Dr. Laurie Drabble is a Professor in the School of Social Work at San Jose State University and Director of the Center for Applied Research in Human Services (CARHS), College of Health and Human Sciences. She is also an Affiliate Scientist with the Alcohol Research Group in Emeryville, CA. and is involved in collaborative research with colleagues at Columbia University (New York), Yale, and Glasgow Caledonian University (Scotland). Her scholarly research focuses primarily on alcohol and other drug use among marginalized populations of women. Her National Institutes on Health (NIH) and ohter externally funded research focuses on factors that contribute, to or protect against, risk for hazardous alcohol use or drug use among sexual minority women. She has also lead several community-university partnered research projects focusing on collaboration between addiction treatment, child welfare and dependency court systems.
Dr. Drabble is former Executive Director of the California Women´s Commission on Alcohol and Drug Dependencies and has worked statewide and nationally as an organizational consultant providing a wide range of technical assistance and training services related to women´s alcohol and drug issues, alcohol/drug prevention strategies, strategic planning, and non-profit management. Dr. Drabble received a BA in Social work at California State University, Los Angeles and a Masters in Social Work at California State University, Long Beach. She earned a Ph.D. in Social Welfare and a Masters in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley.
