Bio
Natalie Chia is a graduate student who is pursuing her Master of Music degree in Instrumental
Conducting at San José State University. She directs the Symphonic Band and serves
as the graduate assistant in the Wind Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, and undergraduate
conducting classes. She has also been featured as a guest conductor with the Diablo
Valley College Symphonic Band, Philharmonic Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble. Natalie
assisted piano and band programs at William C. Overfelt High School and Monroe Middle
School through fellowships sponsored by the California Music Project, a pilot program
launched by San José State University’s music education department to help local low-income
music programs. She is also a Kindermusik and piano instructor at U Music Education
Foundation.
As a saxophonist, Natalie Chia was featured as a soloist with the Diablo Valley College
Wind Ensemble. She was part of the saxophone trio that was featured with the San José
State University Wind Ensemble when they performed David Maslanka’s Hell’s Gate. Natalie
Chia was also a member of the prestigious Philharmonic Winds in Singapore when the
band was awarded Gold with Distinction at the 15th World Music Contest in Kerkrade,
Netherlands.
Natalie Chia received her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from San José
State University, graduating magna cum laude.
