Bio
Romey Sabalius has been at San José State University since the fall semester 1995.
He is a tenured full professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and the coordinator
of the German Program. He teaches German classes at all levels (language, literature
and culture). He also serves as advisor to all German students and as the faculty
contact for the German Club. Professor Sabalius is an internationally recognized expert
in contemporary Swiss literature and he has published four books and numerous articles
and book chapters on the subject. His other scholarly interests include the image
of the United States in German literature, exile literature, post-colonialism, and
foreign language pedagogy. He presents his research at national and international
conferences and has been invited to deliver guest lectures at universities in the
United States, Switzerland, France, Poland, Russia, Finland, India, Australia and
New Zealand. During the academic year 1999/2000 he was visiting professor at Monash
University in Melbourne, Australia. Professor Sabalius organized an International
Symposium on Swiss Literature and an Annual Conference of the Pacific Ancient and
Modern Language Association (PAMLA). He was elected to the statewide Academic Senate
of the California State University (ASCSU) and he is the department representative
of the faculty union (CFA).
