Bio
Subhankar Dhar is a faculty at San Jose State University, serving as Professor in the School of Information Systems and Technology within the School of Business. As an Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Business Data Communications and Networking and senior member of IEEE, he is recognized globally for his contributions to information systems, research, and education.
With a unique blend of academic rigor and industry expertise in software development, product planning, design, and information systems management, Professor Dhar bridges theory and practice, enriching both his teaching and mentorship. His research, funded by the National Science Foundation among others, spans high-impact areas such as data science, big data analytics, mobile and cloud computing, wireless networks, and smart cities - including applied projects with the City of San Jose. His scholarly work, presented across North America, Europe, and India, addresses pressing challenges such as trustworthy AI, misinformation in online social networks, wildfire air quality prediction and wireless networks.
As a prolific author and reviewer for international journals and conferences, he plays a central role in advancing scholarly discourse. He has also served as an external Ph.D. examiner for leading universities in India, reinforcing his global academic influence.
Professor Dhar teaches a portfolio of courses including computer networks, distributed systems, database systems, web-based computing, and data science & machine learning - preparing students for the demands of the technology-driven world.
Beyond academia, he fosters innovation through his affiliation with the Silicon Valley Center for Entrepreneurship, where he advises high-tech startups and mentors entrepreneurs. By combining his research expertise with real-world industry experience, he actively contributes to Silicon Valley’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
His leadership extends to organizing international conferences and workshops, such as IEEE ANTS, shaping the global research agenda in communication networks and intelligent systems.
