Description

The purpose of this course is to provide information about a variety of important issues and possible challenges often faced during adolescence. There will be a few recurring themes throughout several portions of the course. One of the themes of the course (highlighted in the text) is the diversity of cultural practices and beliefs about adolescence. A second general theme is whether and how adolescence may serve as a "transitional" period between childhood and later development. Finally, a third general theme will involve a consideration of the importance of the adolescent years for the development of gender roles. The class format is mixed mode/hybrid; meaning that it is a combination of lecture and online sessions. The required lectures, handouts, and text readings will be the main source of information.
