Bio
Dr. Wendy Lee is an associate professor and the graduate coordinator for the MS Bioinformatics program in the Department of Computer Science at San Jose State University. She earned her Ph. D. in Bioinformatics from the University of California Santa Cruz, an MS in Molecular Biology and Microbiology from San Jose State University, and a BMath in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada. Dr. Lee has over a decade of industry experience developing bioinformatics analytical pipelines and enterprise software. Her research interests include developing and applying bioinformatics methods to analyze next-generation sequencing data for genomic, transcriptomic, and metagenomic studies. She serves as a faculty member of the Applied Programming Experiences (APEX) program that aims to expose diverse students to computer programming by embedding Python-based computing modules into existing introductory Statistics and Biology courses. She is also passionate about fostering the success of women and girls in the STEM fields through training, networking, and mentorship. She currently serves as the faculty advisor for SJSU Girls Who Code College Loop and the SJSU Bioinformatics Club.
