Bio

Dr. Xiao currently serves as the Product Technical Manager and Valeo Expert in AI at Valeo North America in San Mateo, CA, where he leads a team specializing in machine learning within the R&D department of the Comfort Driving Assistance Systems (CDA) Product Group. He earned his Ph.D. in 2015, with a focus on image processing, computer vision, and machine learning. He has 10 years of R&D experience in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving (AD) since 2014. Dr. Xiao has published over 10 peer-reviewed papers and is the inventor of more than 10 granted patents, with over 20 patent applications.

Throughout his career, Dr. Xiao has worked for car manufacturers, Tier One supplier, and AD startups, where he played a pivotal role in the successful development and deployment of systems currently in mass production.

Beyond his industrial contributions, Dr. Xiao actively participated in research initiatives sponsored by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the Ministry of Education of China, and NSF China. Additionally, he serves as an industrial consultant for a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) project in collaboration with Virginia Tech.

In terms of professional involvement, Dr. Xiao held the positions of Treasurer of the Executive Committee and Secretary of the Young Professional Affinity Group of IEEE Southeastern Michigan Section (SEM) in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, he has organized and chaired international academic conference sessions. Dr. Xiao continues to contribute actively as a reviewer for respected academic journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, IEEE Intelligent Systems, IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, and Soft Computing.
