2025 Campus Updates

Below is information for students on changes and impacts that may affect their day-to-day routines.

Some Student Supportive Services Have Moved

As we begin a new academic year, we’re excited to share some important updates to student services.

To make it easier for you to access support, several departments have been relocated and are now part of the newly named Student Support and Global Engagement (SSGE) Suite in the Student Union.

Campus Construction

Over the summer, Facilities installed new lighting around Tower Lawn. While that work is complete, new, fresh lawns were planted this week. Fencing around Tower Lawn’s grass will need to be up for at least five weeks, until mid to late-September. Stay off the grass so we all can enjoy lush lawns for the rest of the year. New lighting and new grass will mean greater flexibility for student activities and events all over Tower Lawn well into evening hours. As a reminder, stay safe by not feeding the campus squirrels. University Police will begin enforcing restrictions on feeding squirrels starting Friday, August 22.

Parking

With everyone back to campus, finding parking in any main campus parking garage will be extremely difficult between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. If you plan on being on campus all day and do not need to use your car immediately, park at the South Campus parking garage at 1278 South 10th Street (at Alma and 10th Streets) and take the free campus shuttle to main campus.

Parking permits for South Campus are significantly cheaper and there is always parking available. During the hot weather this week, you can get guaranteed covered parking in the South Campus garage.

If you will be on campus after 6 p.m., after the shuttle stops service, your South Campus parking permit is valid in Main Campus garages, getting you in the garages at cheaper rates.

Federal Actions

The university will communicate with students if there are any confirmed reports of federal immigration enforcement on campus grounds or at any university campus and facility. Keep notifications ON for the SAMMY app and get Spartan Safe, our official safety and wellness resources app, at go.sjsu.edu/spartansafe. Keep push notifications on for both apps to receive updates of confirmed federal agency activity on SJSU campus grounds. To find out what to do if confronted by federal agents, on or off campus, visit the immigration resources website below.
