Mohamed Abousalem.The Tower Foundation engages distinguished alumni and community leaders in the life of the university through service on its Board of Directors. Board members play a vital role in shaping the university’s philanthropic strategy and work closely with campus leadership to connect with fellow alumni and local businesses—fostering greater engagement and generating support for San José State.

Tower Foundation Board of Directors

The Tower Foundation Board of Directors is composed of up to 43 community members, with many required to be alumni of San José State University (SJSU). Directors are elected to serve three-year terms. Board officers are elected annually by the members and serve one-year terms.

In addition, four ex officio members — including the President of San José State University and the Chair of the Academic Senate — also serve on the Board. The Tower Board convenes four times per year.

Board Committees

The Board operates through five standing committees: Executive, Finance and Investment, Audit, Development, and Nominating and Governance. These committees provide strategic guidance to the Foundation on matters such as campaign development, investment oversight, public relations, and long-term planning.

Board members are expected to demonstrate philanthropic leadership by making annual contributions to San José State University. Four ex officio members — including the University President and the Chair of the Academic Senate — also serve on the Tower Board of Directors. The Board meets quarterly.
