Procedure For Using SJSU NHC For Classroom Use
The Natural History Collections at SJSU include the Carl W. Sharsmith Herbarium, J. Gordon Edwards Entomological Museum, SJSU Greenhouse and Botany Garden, and the SJSU Vertebrate Collection. Together they house hundreds of thousands of specimens of plants and animals. We encourage the use of these collections by SJSU instructors and students for research, class projects, and other creative endeavors. For access to the collections, please refer to the procedures:
- Instructors should contact Madeline Marens(madeline.marens@sjsu.edu) at least two weeks in advance to coordinate class visits to the collections. Please
include the following information:
- number of students to visit
- specimens of interest
- any special requests (equipment, special protocols)
- To reduce the load on NHC staff, class visits should be consolidated to as few trips as possible.
- A free classroom or meeting space will be provided for students to work with specimens.
- When possible, we request that products created as a result of a visit to the NHM (images, videos, other media) be shared with the NHC group to be used for internal use. None of these materials will be shared publicly without the expressed consent of the creators.
