For the Communicative Disorders and Sciences (CDS) major at SJSU:

  • You’ll start the program with a cohort of peers once you reach junior standing.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.7 is required to apply, though most admitted students have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • The CDS core curriculum is a two-year program that begins each Fall semester.
  • To enroll in SJSU Studies courses and the Writing in the Disciplines course (100W), you’ll need to have completed at least 60 units.

This structure ensures you’ll move through the program with a supportive cohort, building the skills and knowledge you need for graduate study and a career in speech-language pathology or audiology.

Steps to Apply

To become a CDS major, you must apply to declare the major with the University by first meeting with an academic advisor in the Student Success Center.  Please make an appointment through Spartan Connect, and select "Change of Major/Minor" as the service reason.
