Congratulations Class of 2024!

San José State University is excited to host in-person commencement ceremonies at the end of each Fall and Spring semesters.

*Summer Graduates will have the option to attend either the Spring Ceremony before their final summer semester or the Fall Ceremony after their final summer semester.

Steps to Commencement

1. Submit your Graduation Application

Contact your Academic Advisor to submit your Graduation Application through MySJSU to the Registrar's Office.

Undergraduates - For assistance contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar@sjsu.edu

Graduate - For assistance contact the GAPE Office at graduate@sjsu.edu

Credential students - Contact your Academic Advisor for assistance

2a. RSVP for Commencement

Check your email for an RSVP link sent from commencement@sjsu.edu

NOTE - Spring 2025 emails have not yet been sent.

If you have not received an email by March 31st, please confirm that your Graduation Application has been submitted. Undergraduates contact registrar@sjsu.edu. Graduates contact graduate@sjsu.edu

Once confirmed, email commencement@sjsu.edu for further assistance

2b. Claim your Guest Tickets

Guest Tickets can be claimed while completing the RSVP form for Commencement or after by logging into your Tassel profile.

A Guest ticket is REQUIRED for all guests age three (3) and up. Maximum of six (6) Guest Tickets are guaranteed per graduate.

If you need additional Guest Tickets, we recommend asking other Graduates scheduled for your ceremony if they have any unclaimed tickets. If so, they should request the additional tickets by logging back into the Tassel account and email or print their extra tickets for you and your guests.

Additional Guest Tickets may be released 2-3 weeks prior to Commencement, but is not guaranteed. If this is possible, students will be notified via email from commencement@sjsu.edu

3. Purchase your Regalia

All participating graduates are required to wear the correct degree academic regalia to attend the commencement ceremony. 

Academic regalia is available to purchase a few different ways:

1. IN-PERSON (fastest & least expensive method):

Visit the SJSU Spartan Bookstore any time after Grad Fest up to the first Commencement ceremony.

Spartan Bookstore hours can be found on their website sjsu.bncollege.com

2. ONLINE:

Visit the Herff Jones website.
Orders must be submitted 30 days prior to Commencement to ensure your Regalia is delivered on time.

4. Prepare your Guests

1. Request & access your guest ticket by logging into your Tassel profile.

2. Inform your guests with Commencement information by providing them their Guest Ticket(s) and directing them to the Commencement website 

5. Arrive Early

Please plan to arrive 1-hour early to ensure you and your guests have time to,

 - find parking
 - connect with family & friends
 - check-in to security 
 - find seating.

*NOTE - there is no rehearsal. Event staff will be present to provide direction through out your Commencement Ceremony.

Commencement Ceremony Schedule

Doors to the venue will open 1 hour before each ceremony start time. Ceremonies may last up to 2 hours depending on the number of students attending. Each ceremony will be live streamed.

Students should arrive no later than 30 minutes before their ceremony start time and follow the instructions of the event staff to get checked in and seated inside of the venue before the ceremony start time. SJSU does not host rehearsals for students.

Alumni Association

Continue to network with and receive valuable educational programs from SJSU as an Alumni Association member.

SJSU Career Center

The SJSU Career Center provides alumni with events and many career development resources.

Career Development Resources:  SJSU alumni (within 1 year of graduation) are eligible for up to 3 free virtual career counseling appointments and access to many digital tools. You’ll find resources to help you explore careers, job search, engage with employers, and launch a successful career.
