My work is anchored in examining the sociology of higher education. My research centers on four core strands: (1) historicizing and contextualizing race-conscious affirmative action policies; (2) applying a critical analysis to framing and discourse as related to race-conscious policies, (3) promoting equity oriented critical policy analysis for praxis, and (4) interrogating “first-generation-ness” as a continuum, which includes examining the experiences of first-generation faculty.

Dr. Rebeca Burciaga is the Faculty Executive Director of the Institute for Emancipatory Education and a Professor of Educational Leadership & Chicana and Chicano Studies. Her research is nested in the nepantla (borderlands) of Education and Chicana/o Studies and focuses on the schooling experiences of Chicanx and Latinx students, families, communities, educators, and leaders. Her current project focuses on culturally sustaining approaches to school leadership. Dr. Burciaga’s areas of expertise include qualitative methodologies (testimonio & ethnography), critical theories (critical race theory & Chicana feminist theory), and critical pedagogies. Her research has been supported by highly competitive funding including the Spencer Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health.

Arnold B. Danzig is a Professor of Educational Leadership and Education Policy and founding director of the Ed.D. Program in Educational Leadership at San José State University.  He is professor emeritus at Arizona State University and served in multiple leadership positions including division director and associate dean in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, and associate director of the School Public Affairs at Arizona State University.  He has authored, edited, and co-edited books, chapters, journal volumes, and journal articles on school leadership and education policy during his career in higher education.
