Faculty Co-Founder
Child and Adolescent Development
Dr. Maffini is a professor of Child and Adolescent Development and the Director of
HDCC. Dr. Maffini's research, clinical, and community-focused expertise are rooted
in counseling psychology, emphasizing trauma-informed practices and culturally responsive
approaches to healing, healthy development, health equity, and holistic well-being
for children, youth, and families in local communities.

Dr. Matthew Capriotti (he/him)
Faculty Co-Founder
Psychology
Dr. Capriotti is a professor of Psychology and a licensed clinical psychologist with
expertise in supporting children, adolescents, and families around mental health and
wellness. In addition to training the next generation of mental health professionals,
he conducts research on treatments for youth with tic disorders such as Tourette Syndrome
and on LGBTQ+ mental health.

Faculty Co-Founder
Communicative Disorders and Sciences
Dr. Mahendra was a professor and former chair of the department of Communicative Disorders
and Sciences at SJSU. She currently serves as a professor of Head and Neck Surgery
and Communication Sciences and the Chief of Speech-Language Pathology at the Duke
University School of Medicine. Her research interests include neurologic communication
disorders, bilingual service delivery, health equity, and the efficacy of community-nested
interventions for optimizing communication, cognition, and quality of life.
