Bio

Étienne Brown is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at San José State University. He joined the department in August 2019. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford and the Université de Montréal. He also taught philosophy at the Sorbonne (Paris-IV), where he completed his Ph.D. in 2016. His research interests are in the philosophy of technology, political philosophy, and ethics, with a current focus on the normative implications of the digital public sphere (especially content moderation and algorithmic recommendation).
