Kim believes that the journey towards living a meaningful life begins with increasing awareness: of social context, disciplinary content, professional expectations, personal capabilities, and of self. Inspired awareness leads to actualization, the invigorating realization that we are not only capable of action, but that we have an obligation to act. Choosing to make a difference initiates the cycle of lifelong transformation, which gives our professional and personal lives the purpose and direction that produces fulfillment and satisfaction.

Bio

Kim S. Uhlik is a tenured Emeritus Professor in the former Department of Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism Management (now Department of Health Sciences and Recreation) at San Jose State University, and coordinated its Leadership and Administration emphasis. His Ph.D. program in Higher Education Administration/Sports Administration was grounded in leadership and strategic planning - balanced by practical experience in leadership positions with a Visitors and Convention Bureau, a commercial recreation S-Corporation, and several municipal Parks and Recreation Departments. Kim's research seeks to discover and develop a partnership-based philosophy and practice that promotes responsible entrepreneurship, stakeholder empowerment, proactive stewardship, sustainable development, and innovative andragogy through the transformation of students, teachers, clients, and practitioners that leads to life satisfaction and fulfillment for all. He has published articles related to both partnership and andragogy (including academic advising), and his community-centered class projects - involving recreation organization development, park design, and community development - have garnered positive publicity for students and higher education alike. Kim comes to San Jose State from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, where he served as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the former School of Exercise, Leisure, and Sport. He now is a professional artist "focusing" on digital photography.
