College of Science Out and Ally List

Collage featuring the progress pride flag, and stickers labled "This ally stands with you" and "This out ally stands with you."Out and Ally lists are a recommended practice for improving climate for LGBTQ+ students in science spaces, and the list of Out Allies and Allies among faculty and staff in the SJSU College of Science was brought about from requests from our own students at SJSU. In addition to passive signalling, they can be a tool for students, faculty, and staff to find community and support. If you would like to learn more about the motivation, process, and ways that these modes have been implemented, you can see a short one-pager on the topic.

The CoS Out and Ally list represents a subset of active allies and/or out instructors in the College of Science. We remind everyone that it may not be safe for all people to be publicly out or publicly show support in our current national and global climate. An instructor's absence from this list does not necessarily indicate a lack of support.

You are also welcome to look out for Out and Ally stickers (shown above) on folks' doors—another indication that they are either out and/or have committed to active allyship to LGBTQ+ students and colleagues!

Currently, the list includes 39 faculty and staff who are out and/or committed to active allyship.
