BACKGROUND: 

Jenaro Abraham is an interdisciplinary social scientist whose research examines how Latin American social movements and insurgencies endure conflict, build transgressive political economies, and imagine new possibilities for peace and social justice. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Tulane University, an M.A. in Political Science from Tulane, an M.A. in History from the University of Puerto Rico, and a B.A. in Music Education. His work focuses on political violence and its political economies with a focus on Colombia and Venezuela, peacebuilding, anti-colonial thought, and Puerto Rico’s struggle for independence.

He has done extensive field work in Colombia, Mexico and Puerto Rico, and frequently contributes to interviews on outlets such as NPR, The Guardian, Forbes, TRT, BBC, the Seattle Times, and NACLA, among other outlets on issues pertinent to Latin American Politics.

Currently, Dr. Abraham is working on a book project on the FARC and the political economy of violence in Colombia, a co-edited volume with LSU press entitled “Challenging Neoliberalism and Colonialism in Puerto Rico”, and a variety of other articles on similar topics of interest.

Apart from his teaching and research, Dr. Abraham serves as the Vice President of the Puerto Rican Independence Party in the Diaspora (DPIP) and collaborates with Boricuas Unidos en la Diaspora (BUDPR), an advocacy group for Puerto Rican Independence.
