Announcement

Prepare to become a STEM leader in the biomedical field through advanced, hands-on training in biotechnology, medical product development management courses and MBA-level business courses. Complete this 14-course MBT program in five semesters, including one summer internship.

Our reinvented Master of Science in Biotechnology program builds upon the value it has provided for over 20 years by now offering a concentration in Medical Product Development Management. Our graduates are highly trained individuals and are prepared to make immediate contributions at biotechnology, medical device, nonprofit or government organizations as a result of our program's valuable learning experiences.

  • Develop a vast understanding of the biotechnology and medical product industry, including drug and medical device development, marketing, finance and intellectual property.
  • Learn specialized skills in clinical development — including trial design and operations — as well as pharmacovigilance and regulatory affairs for medical devices through the program's concentration.
  • Gain additional hands-on science or business expertise through our science and MBA elective options.
  • Expand your learning beyond the classroom by obtaining significant work experience through the summer internship.

The San Francisco Bay Area also has more biotech companies than any other location worldwide, which enables our students to benefit from our access to Silicon Valley industry experts and companies. It also contributes to why greater than 90% of our students have jobs by graduation.

Career Opportunities

  • Our graduates work in a variety of biotechnology positions, and over 300 of our MBT alumni work in Silicon Valley.
  • Biospace.com has named the San Francisco Bay area as Biotech Bay, a hotbed for over 3,000 biotech companies and more than 96,000 life science professionals.
  • Biotech startups are at the cutting edge of the industry and have launched 40% of new active substances in the last 3 years, oftentimes collaborating with big pharma. Our program offers graduate-level business entrepreneurship courses, a great elective to take if you are considering joining a startup or becoming an entrepreneur yourself.
  • According to go.bio.org, the demand for STEM talent in the bioscience industry continues to grow. On average, biotech workers earn 85% more than others working in the industry.
  • According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of natural sciences managers is projected to grow 8% from 2023 to 2033, faster than the average for all occupations.

There are a lot of biotech companies in the Bay Area, and we have quick access to them. I found an internship through one of the emails the MBT professor sent, and that’s how I met the CEO. I interviewed the next day and pretty much got hired the day after.
