With evening classes that are scheduled to fit within the tax calendar, the Master of Science in Taxation is a great opportunity for those currently working in tax or accounting grads seeking 150 units to become a CPA. The 30 units can be completed full-time in 12 months or part-time in 24­-36 months.

The Master of Science in Taxation (MST) is unique in its offerings. Students can choose from a variety of elective courses to help focus their studies, and the co-curricular opportunities give students a chance to engage with professionals, other graduate students, and community members.

Classes meet in the evenings and occasionally on Saturday mornings. MST courses are also available to qualified students through Open University prior to formal admission. Full-time or part-time options are available.

A versatile degree, the MST can be used toward many different career paths. Graduates of this program are working at CPA firms, government tax agencies, or opening and running their own tax firms.

  • Careers for MST grads have been listed in US News Best Jobs for 2022: Financial Manager is listed as the #2 best business job, #7 in the 100 best jobs, and #16 in best-paying jobs for 2022. 
  • Accountant is the #11 best business job and #42 in the 100 best jobs for 2022. 
  • Silicon Valley is in the heart of high-tech. Students have the opportunity to choose electives that prepare them for careers in the industry.
  • In 2019-2020, several Lucas Graduate School of Business Grads were employed at the Big 4 --- DeloitteErnst & Young (EY), KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
  • According to the Employment Development Department for the State of California, jobs for Accountants and Auditors will increase by 7.7% or 13,000 between 2018-2028. There will be an estimated 176,000 job openings for these positions between 2018-2028.
