Current Research Activities
My research examines the role of avoidance in dealing with psychological disorders and problems, particularly those related to fear of death, end-of-life, and grief.
Research Connections to Current Events
My work directly relates to how we cope with frightening events, including pandemics, and ways that we avoid thoughts about our mortality and the complicated ways this interferes with living meaningfully.
Personal Connections to Research
I am inspired by my research assistants and colleagues who do this work with me around the world, my classroom students who have often faced enormous odds to complete their education and become the amazing Spartans that they are, and my extraordinary and brave patients who share their end-of-life journey with me.
