Petitions for Current Student

A current student who would like to intern at their place of employment must complete a petition to request to intern with that agency. The employer must also adhere to the SJSU guidelines and policies. It is important to note that the employee’s paid role must be separate from the internship role. The Field Office cannot guarantee approval in advance because of different variables that may exist. In addition, there is not a guarantee that your agency will be approved. Students may only intern at their agency of employment with an approved petition for one internship but not both.

Important petition related dates for current first year field field students going into their final year of field education in the 2025-2026 academic year. 

• 1/10/25: Active agency list released to students
• 1/17/25: Petition applications released
• 1/21/25: 1st day students can reach out to agencies to inquire about a placement
• 1/22/25: 1st day to conduct interviews
• 02/03/2025:  First day able to accept an internship
• 2/28/25:  Petition (intern at place of employment) application due
• 03/28/2025:  Final date to receive a petition response
• 4/4/25 Accept a placement DUE DATE

Please submit your petition application to the social work mailbox (socialworkfieldeducation@sjsu.edu).  On the subject line please put the following: Name, Date of submission and petition application.
