RINGS: Enabling Joint Sensing, Communication, and Multi-tenant Edge AI for Cooperative Perception Systems

About NSF RINGS: The U.S. National Science Foundation announced a new investment of over $37 million aimed at the development of intelligent, resilient, and reliable next generation -- or NextG -- networks. The investment called RINGS—short for Resilient and Intelligent Next-Generation Systems— is a public-private partnership that focuses on accelerating research to increase the competitiveness of the U.S. in NextG networking and computing technologies and ensure the security and resilience of NextG technologies and infrastructure. The RINGS program is NSF's single largest effort to date to engage public and private partners to jointly support a research program. Private sector partners include Apple, Ericsson, Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Nokia, Qualcomm, and VMware. Government partners include the U.S. Department of Defense's Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

We are looking for self-motivated students for multiple on-campus research assistant positions funded by National Science Foundation in the following areas: 1) autonomous and robotic systems with hands-on experience in ROS2, Carla simulator, camera/Radar and Lidars, and any robotic platforms; 2) deep learning models for perception with hands-on experience in Pytorch model training, 2D/3D object detection or segmentation; 3) Embedded device and IoT systems with hands-on experience in embedded systems, FPGA, wireless communication and network systems. These positions are immediately available now until Summer, and renewable after the Summer. Students need to clearly document their efforts and meet with advisor regularly. After the term, students are needed to prepare the final report for publishable research papers. Interested students can email the resume and highlight your previous project with matched areas to Prof. Kaikai Liu at kaikai.liu@sjsu.edu. Only students with matched background will be contacted via email
