Student Advising
First Time Frosh Students
First-year students must meet with a Student Academic Success Specialist (SASS) during orientation. They must also meet with a SASS once every Fall and Spring to discuss General Education (GE) requirements. This year is a time to decide on majors to apply to and work with a SASS to make an academic plan.
Continuing Students
Second-year Frosh and Sophomore students must meet with a Student Academic Success Specialist in Fall and Spring. They will discuss their class schedules and plans to apply to a major. Our goal is to get students into a major by the time they have earned 60 units.
Upper Division Students (60+ Units)
Students who have earned more than 60 units are considered Upper Division students. These students need to meet with a specific Student Academic Success Specialist to solidify their plans for applying to a major. Please email exploratory-advising@sjsu.edu with any questions.
