Dear Colleagues,

I am very excited to announce that Dr. Adrienne A. Redmond-Sanogo will be joining SJSU as the next dean of the Connie L. Lurie College of Education! This is an exciting time for SJSU and the College and I look forward to working closely with the new dean as well as the faculty, staff, and students in the college as SJSU continues to provide leadership across all the areas of education research, teaching, and service in the City of San José, the County of Santa Clara, and beyond at the state and global levels. Dr. Redmond-Sanogo will start her position on January 5, 2026.

Dr. Redmond-Sanogo joins the Lurie College of Education with a strong record of collaborative, equity-driven leadership and a commitment to expanding educational opportunity. At Oklahoma State University, she helped guide major institutional initiatives:  leading through a college merger, strengthening diversity and inclusion efforts, improving online program quality, and supporting recruitment, retention, and student success. Her scholarship centers on removing barriers in STEM education and supporting underrepresented learners. Most recently, Dr. Redmond-Sanogo has become a leader in the ethical and effective use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in education, developing faculty workshops, contributing to national conversations, and publishing on AI’s impact on mathematics, science, and STEM teacher preparation. Her experience and values align closely with the Lurie College mission to prepare transformative educators and leaders who advance equity, access, and innovation.

I want to also thank Dr. David Whitenack, who has led the college since March of 2024. Dr. Whitenack has been an incredible leader during this time of transition and it has been an absolute pleasure working with him in this role. I also want to thank the entire search committee, who stretched this search across two semesters and academic years. I want to acknowledge Dr. Ravisha Mathur, who provided outstanding leadership to that committee. The thoughtfulness and thoroughness that the committee took with this process was truly impressive; they had to process and translate a tremendous amount of feedback. In the end, the committee (and all the respondents from campus) provided me with a lot of data upon which I had to reflect in making this appointment.

I remain incredibly excited about what the Connie L. Lurie College of Education will move forward. The college is in a great position, populated by amazing faculty, staff, and students. As provost, I am also ready to partner with the new dean to advance on all the important work that is already underway in the college.

Sincerely,

Vin
