Parenting students often juggle multiple, competing responsibilities between their academic, work, and home lives. San José State University is committed to providing a range of services, resources, and referrals to ensure that pregnant and parenting students have equitable educational opportunities. By offering supports such as Priority Registration, Basic Needs Assistance, and On-Campus Childcare, SJSU fosters an environment where you can achieve academic success while raising a family. All offerings are in compliance with California Assembly Bill 2881.

Early Registration for Student Parents

Take advantage of early registration to coordinate your academic schedule with childcare and family commitments if you provide more than half of the financial support for at least one dependent child under the age of 18.

Rights & Protection for Pregnant and Nursing Parenting Students

Understand your right to reasonable academic supportive measures and flexibility to ensure your educational journey remains on track during pregnancy or while nursing.

Pregnancy Accommodations

Request temporary academic adjustments through the AEC if you have documented pregnancy-related limitations to ensure that medical or physical requirements do not hinder your participation in your degree program.

A.S. Child Development Center

Explore high-quality, close-to-campus childcare and early childhood education options, including potential subsidized care and financial assistance programs like CCAMPIS to help reduce costs for eligible student parents.

Child Development Laboratory Preschool

Student Wellness Center

Access primary care, mental health services, a low-cost pharmacy, and the Wellness Lounge to help you maintain your well-being.

Lactation Accommodations

Coordinate directly with your faculty or the Office for Title IX and Equal Opportunity to secure reasonable break times and academic flexibility so you can focus on your studies while caring for your nursing needs.

Visit the dedicated lactation room within the Student Wellness Center by checking in at the front desk for a private, secure space to breastfeed or pump during building hours.
