Transfer Orientation
Welcome!
Here at SJSU, each college has a Student Success Center that helps their students navigate through general education, graduation requirements, policies and procedures, and academic notice.The College of Social Sciences Student Success Center (CoSS SSC) provides GE Advising for current students. SJSU also offers major-specific advising, and major advisors will assist students with their major related coursework.
We highly recommend that transfer students meet with their GE Advisor during their first semester to ensure they navigate through their academics as efficiently as possible.
Spartan Experience for Transfers (SET)
Spartan Experience for Transfers (SET) is the mandatory orientation experience that all incoming transfer students are required to attend, which includes being present for the entire duration of the program. During orientation, you will learn about various campus resources as well as register for your courses.
FAQ's
What if my transcripts are not posted to my student portal by the time I register for classes?
Please note that it can take some time for your transcripts to be posted to your student portal, so if they are not posted by your scheduled orientation, please have your unofficial transcripts accessible during course registration.
Can I meet with a GE Advisor prior to orientation?
GE Advisors are unable to meet with incoming students until after orientation. Your major advisor will be available during course registration to answer major-related questions.
How do I schedule an appointment with a GE Advisor after I attend orientation?
To schedule an appointment with a GE advisor after orientation, email socsci-success@sjsu.edu with: 1) your name, 2) student ID, 3) the orientation session you attended, 4) your availability (provide a few days/times you are available), and 5) whether you prefer a Zoom or in-person appointment.
We will respond within 2-3 business days.
After Spring semester beings, incoming transfer students can schedule an appointment with an Advisor through Spartan Connect, our appointment system.
