Student Academic Success Specialists are your GE Advisors. They are available to assist first-year students with GE Planning/Scheduling, American Institutions, PE, transfer credit, unit counts, academic notice, and university policies & procedures.

When can I register for Spring 2026?
You will be able to view your enrollment starting October at 20 on your MySJSU portal.
What will registration look like for Spring 2026?
You can view your Spring 2026 enrollment date on your MySJSU. If you are a continuing student, when your enrollment appointment starts, you will register for classes on your own.
Note: Remember to schedule an appointment with your Student Academic Success Specialist before your enrollment time (we highly encourage you to book in advance) to review what classes you need to take in the following semester.
How do I change my major?
Step 1: Visit the general catalog to learn more about your intended major.
Step 2: Meet with an academic advisor at the Success Center of your intended major to discuss impaction and review what it takes to change your major.
Step 3: Complete the necessary criteria needed to change/add your major as discussed with an advisor.
How do I add a minor?
Step 1: Visit the general catalog to learn more about your intended major.
Step 2: Meet with an assigned Student Academic Success Specialist to identify if the units will affect your degree progress.
Step 3: Meet with an advisor within the department that offers the minor to discuss the requirements and any additional steps you need to take to formally declare.
How do I know my class standing?
Freshmen - 1-29 earned units
Sophomore - 30-59 earned units
Junior - 60-89 earned units
Senior - 90+ earned units
What does “full-time” mean?
An undergraduate student who enrolls in 12 or more units is classified as full-time for the purposes of financial aid.
An average unit load of at least 30 units per academic year (15 units per semester without summer or winter coursework) is required to complete an undergraduate degree in four years.
How do I know what classes to take next semester?
We encourage you to first understand how to read your MyProgress report, which will indicate the classes you still need to make. Please also make an appointment with your Student Academic Success Specialist before your enrollment date (we highly encourage you to book in advance) to review what classes you need to take in the next semester.
What are the Area 1A and Area 2 requirements for my first year?
The Area 1A and Area 2 requirements must be completed within the first year at SJSU.
For students enrolled in ENGL 1AF, you will enroll in ENGL 1AS for the following semester.
For students who have not enrolled in an Area 1A class this semester, be sure to enroll in ENGL 1A next semester and have your RCW completed.
Your Area 2 course is determined by your major (or intended major) and your math category.
If you are math category III or IV, you will most likely need to also register for a math support class.

Your Student Academic Success Specialist is located in the Undergraduate Advising Hub located at the Student Services Center (9th Street & San Fernando).
