Jocelyn Weart is a Lecturer in the Department of Justice Studies at San José State University, where she teaches FS 57 (Forensic Serology and Biology). She recently retired as a Supervising Criminalist and DNA Analyst with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Crime Laboratory, bringing more than 20 years of experience in forensic DNA analysis, casework, laboratory operations, and leadership. Earlier in her career, she worked at the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL), where she conducted mitochondrial DNA analysis on a variety of biological samples and contributed to the identification of service members from past military conflicts. Over the course of her career, she processed a wide range of cases, including homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, and property crimes, and has extensive experience in biological screening, STR analysis, and DNA interpretation. She led a countywide initiative that significantly reduced sexual assault kit turnaround times and has presented and trained law enforcement professionals, attorneys, and students. She is a professional member of the California Association of Criminalists and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. She holds a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno, and an M.F.S. from The George Washington University.
