How to Submit an Electronic Application

  1. Complete the electronic application found here, identifying all scholarships being applied for, and include all relevant supporting documentation (unofficial transcripts, scholarship statements, GPA) within the application.
  2. Within the electronic application, upload a PDF of your unofficial transcript from SJSU and another PDF file comprising your last college or university prior to attending SJSU (if applicable).
  3. Within the electronic application, write a unique 300- to 500- word statement for each scholarship applied for, meeting the requirements described below.
  4. If applying for J. Edgar Hoover Foundation Leadership Scholarship or Williard ‘Huck’ Schmidt Memorial Scholarship, write a 500- to 700-word essay or create (provide a URL) a 3- to 5-minute video answering the specific questions described below for each scholarship within the electronic application.
  5. If applying for the Paula Stone Hubbell Memorial Scholarship, provide the name and email address for the justice studies faculty or professional willing to serve as your nominator. The scholarship committee will reach out to them for a letter of nomination after the deadline (i.e., March 1st).

Recommendations:

  1. Ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria for each scholarship prior to compiling the documents needed for your application (e.g., justice studies, undergraduate, senior, minimum GPA).
  2. Compile documents (unofficial SJSU and other institution transcripts and scholarship statements) and calculate GPA (overall and major-only) prior to beginning the electronic application. Then paste your answers into the corresponding places within the application (note: you can begin your application and return to it later).
  3. Ensure that you have received permission from any person writing a letter of recommendation/nomination for your application prior to listing them in your electronic application, and give them (preferably) at least three weeks’ notice.
  4. Despite similarities between the criteria for each scholarship, ensure that your 300- to 500-word statement for each scholarship is unique, and speaks directly about the person whom the scholarship is honoring.
  5. Proof-read and have others read each statement prior to submission to ensure there are no errors or mistakes.
