Campus Construction Impacts

Aug. 18-22

The Tower Lawn Lighting Improvement Project continues. Expect some minor construction noise around Spartan Memorial and YUH. Fencing around Tower Lawn is installed to protect fresh grass that will need to remain undisturbed until mid-September. Please stay off until the roots are strong. There is also work at CCB and the Arch of Dignity.

Classroom and Teaching Spaces Updates

This summer, IT upgraded teaching technology in select, highly-used classrooms as part of the multi-year Technology Upgrade project. Also, Academic Affairs and Facilities Development and Operations (FD&O) rolled out a classrooms and teaching spaces resource hub and building access site for use by all employees.

Take Transit to Campus

Avoid the challenges with traffic and parking and use your employee SmartPass from Transportation Solutions, or park at the south campus garage and take the free shuttle. City-owned ParkSJ garages near campus also provide 90 minutes of free parking to the general public.

FYI: SJSU Sign-In Required When Reconnecting to WiFi

To ensure secured access to our WiFi networks, IT renewed the certificate this summer. When you reconnect your devices to the internet for the first time this semester, you will be prompted to sign-in with your ID number and password. 

Student Services Relocated

Student services like SJSUCares, the Accessible Education Center, UndocuSpartan and more moved to Student Union West. Enter from across the Engineering Building (ENG).

Save the Date: Benefits Fair

Save the date for the annual benefits and services fair on Wednesday, September 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. No registration necessary. Email up-org-development@sjsu.edu to request ADA accommodations.

Downtown Farmers’ Market

Pick up fresh produce and cooked foods from local vendors every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Paseo de San Antonio outside the Hammer Theater Center.

Spartan Safe is SJSU’s official campus safety app featuring all safety, reporting, and holistic wellness resources. Free for all employees, students, visitors and families.

Employee Headshots/Portraits

Faculty and staff are encouraged to use the new drop-in service for professional portraits at the photo booth in Administration (ADM) 255 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Friday.

Tuition Fee Waiver

Fee waivers for this semester are due September 16 for all employees or qualified dependents taking courses for credit towards a degree or for professional development.

Fall 2025 Weeks of Welcome

Kick off the new academic year with weeks of fun, social programming on and off-campus. Several events are open to faculty and staff.

Reminder to all faculty and staff: technology devices, audio and visual equipment, and accessories are available to loan from the Instruction and Meeting Spaces office in Instructional Resources Center (IRC) 112 (enter from across ADM).

Faculty at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories assistant professor of computational oceanography Michael Wood and Dr. Dustin Carroll, along with student researchers Basil Darby and Tara Parker, published a compelling report on the effects of Greenland’s melting glaciers on ocean life.
